UPDATED 09-06-08: How to install CUDA 1.1 on Windows XP

Also available on the class website, the attached document explains in plain language the simple process of installing CUDA 1.1 on your Windows XP machine. The latest version of CUDA is 2.0. However, we will be using CUDA 1.1 in class. If you have already installed CUDA 2.0 on your machine, please uninstall the toolkit and SDK and reinstall version 1.1. There is no need to uninstall the driver that you downloaded previously. If you have any questions about this, please post on the board and we will get back to you ASAP. Sorry for the confusion.

Do the machines in ME 1235 have Visual Studio 2005? On the programs menu I only see Visual Studio 2008. Can I install this myself on CAE's computers?

I don't know, but if only 2008 is available that is not going to be good.
I'm going to follow up on this with somebody from CAE.
Stay tuned.

I'm not 100% but it seems that DevStudio 2008 should work with CUDA 1.1.  It doesn't work for sure with CUDA 2.0.
I'll keep an eye on this.

Nick, if you read this, can you confirm that DevStudio 2008 works with CUDA 1.1.

Re: UPDATED 09-06-08: How to install CUDA 1.1 on Windows XP

From what I'm seeing here, http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s=6d ... opic=77241, it looks like VS2008 will not be supported until CUDA 2.1. The thread talks about people having trouble getting CUDA 2.0 working with VS2008. I haven't seen anything that suggests CUDA 1.1 would do any better with VS2008, but if someone finds evidence to the contrary, please post.

Re: UPDATED 09-06-08: How to install CUDA 1.1 on Windows XP

I borrow a GPU card on Friday. Unfortunately the power supply in the computer (Dell Optiplex GX280) was not large enough for the graphics card. My adviser does not have another other computers for me to use. Has anyone had success getting CUDA 1.1 to work on the ME1235 lab computers? I do not know how I will do the homework.

I borrowed a GPU card too, but it is not compatible with my motherboard. No other computer in my lab has a compatible motherboard with a PCI-E card slot.

I tried ME 1235 lab, and things don't work there either.

I'm following up on the CUDA 1.1 in 1235ME.  This should have been done a long time ago by the CAE.  I sent out an email to inquire about this and i'll get back with another post to provide further details.

Has anyone installed  CUDA 1.1 for Windows XP 64 bit? I've been going to the NVIDIA page the last two days and the download links are broken. I've also sent an email to them and they say they will fix it soon. In case they don't, maybe I could get an exe file from someone??

Re: UPDATED 09-06-08: How to install CUDA 1.1 on Windows XP

I  followed up with Josh, the CAE contact person for the ME department.
He said that they'll have the GPUs installed in the machines in 1235ME on Tu afternoon/evening, and they'll become available on Wd.
It turns out that only Visual Studio 2008 can be installed on those machines, so that's going to be a bit of an issue.  It looks like VS2008 is not working with CUDA 2.0.  We are using CUDA 1.1, it might work with this version.  Stayed tuned for more in this regard.

Having the GPU cards available on Wd morning means that you'll have two days to complete the profiling problem of the assigned HW.  For people using the machines in 1235ME, please let me know if you need an extension as far as the due date is concerned.  It would be ok if you turn in the HW 24 hours late.
Please note that you don't need the GPU machines for anything except executing a profiling run  (which is going to take you about 15 minutes).  In fact, you can answer all the questions in that problem before profiling the code.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Dan
