Midterm Exam

To All:
This post is meant to answer questions you asked in class on Th, Nov 20.  First of all, the exam will be closed books (there is no book to speak of anyway).  However, you can bring one sheet of paper (both sides) with any notes you can squeeze on it.

In regards to the format of the exam, it will have a set of multiple choice questions, followed by a small number of more conceptual questions, followed by one question that will ask you to describe (using pseudo code and images that you might find helpful to draw) how you'd go about implementing a simple parallel algorithm in a SIMD setup.  When it comes to algorithms, I'm not going to ask you to describe a parallel sort algorithm, for instance, because it wasn't covered (discussed) in class.  Only algorithms covered in the slides can make it into the exam.  Furthermore, you will not be asked to tell me what specific CUDA function you call to initialize memory on the device, etc.  What you can be asked through is to comment on the suitability of your algorithm design for implementation in CUDA.

Finally, the best way to prepare for the exam is to go through the slides and understand what was covered therein.  I am available to answer your questions any time you can find me (please call 890 0914, I read my email about once a day, otherwise just swing by).  Additionally, I set aside the afternoon of Nov 19 (1-6 PM) to meet with you individually.  Please sign up for 45 minute time slots using the forum (time slots listed below).

Re: Midterm Exam

I'll take 1-1:45. Is this for us to ask you questions from the slides?

Re: Midterm Exam

Can I get down with Makarand's time slot? I have a few questions (like 3), so I don't need a full 45 min. slot
