ADAMS 05

First of all, the instructions ask us to answer questions A and B for this assignment, but the two questions appear to be asking the same thing. Could we get some clarifying instructions? Also, the instructions for creating a trace spline (slide 9) do not seem to apply to this version of ADAMS, or else they're just very unclear. How do we create the trace of the cam?

You're right, the assignment is outdated. I'll update it to clarify some of the instructions, and post back here when it's ready.

To create the trace of the cam, run a 1 second, 100 step simulation. Then go to the Results tab, and click on the little pendulum icon in the "Review"window to create the trace spline.
Radu will be uploading a less ambiguous set of slides for this assignment shortly.

Hello,

I am trying create the contact force between the cam and the rod in Adams 5. Slide 14 specifies that I should select Point to Curve contact type. However, it also mentions specifying a J-Curve (which does not exist in the Point to Curve fields in Adams), and also shows/references multiple normal force arrows (which do not occur in Point to Curve). Anyway, when using point to curve, the mechanism literally falls apart in simulation. I am trying to do a Curve to Curve contact force, but unsuccessfully. Any suggestions on what to do here?

Matthew,

You should be creating the "Point to Curve" Contact Type, using a marker on the rod "ref_marker", and the curve created from the Trace spline that's part of the cam body. See the attached picture to see what it's supposed to look like in the GUI.
