Assignment 12: Timing results

Please submit your timing results for computing the integral using OpenMP.
Report results as follows:

Timing, Sequential: blahblah milliseconds
Timing, OpenMP [indicate AMD or Intel?]: blah milliseconds

For N= 1000000 using 16 processors:
The Serial integral is approximately 32.121, Error is 2.18664e-08
The Parallel integral is approximately 32.121, Error is 2.1867e-08
Total Serial Time: 0.140397 s
Total Parallel Time: 0.012546 s
11.1902 X speedup. Efficiency: 69.9386%

For N= 1000000 using 64 processors:
The Serial integral is approximately 32.121, Error is 2.18664e-08
The Parallel integral is approximately 32.121, Error is 2.18671e-08
Total Serial Time: 0.165890 s
Total Parallel Time: 0.006061 s
27.3702 X speedup. Efficiency: 42.766%

Sequential Computation Time: 151.68 ms
Parallel Computation Time: 7.32 ms

Speedup: 20.72X

On the AMD node (Euler 17) with 48 processors (qsub -I -l nodes=1:ppn=48; I did not wait to be assigned all 64)
Serial time - Mean: 153.9383 ms, Standard Deviation: 2.978 ms
OMP time - Mean: 6.0616 ms, Standard Deviation: 0.233 ms

The result of integration is 32.121041.

The configurations are: AMD node (euler 32) with 64 processors (qsub -I -l nodes=1:ppn=64). Both OMP program and sequential one are executed 10 times.
The OMP running time on average is 8.5822 ms.
The sequential running time on average is 248.95 ms.

Yet I found that the sequential program seems to execute faster on the main node with just 1 processor, the average time is: 196.65 ms.

On AMD node using 64 processes for Parallel Run. Timings are an average of 10 runs.

Timing, Sequential: 153.2483 ms
Timing, OpenMP: 7.3319 ms

Timings reported are the average of 10 runs on euler28 (AMD Opteron Processor 6274)

Timing, Sequential: 149.096986 milliseconds
Timing, OpenMP [AMD 64-cores]: 3.085822 milliseconds

Parallel speedup = 48.316788X

I am pretty happy with this. OpenMP is sweet!

euler28 using 4 threads.

Sequential: 260.807 ms
Parallel 4 threads: 71.8635 ms

A little less than 4x speedup. I think the switch statement I used caused problems in the single-threaded performance, which then hosed performance everywhere else. That or the omp reduction operation sucks bigtime and I should have done that by hand.

Timing, OpenMP (AMD-64 cores): 7.0541 ms, standard derivation 0.3635 ms
Speed up: 22.8919X

Timings are an average of 10 runs.
