For the displacement plots I put both x and y on the vertical axis vs time (it seemed odd putting both on the horizontal and time on the vertical). If the plot is supposed to have x on the horizontal and y on the vertical, I can change it or add another plot, just let me know.

What are we supposed to submit for this assignment? Just these plots, or the code as well? I ask because, now that my program seems to be working, the code to solve any of these problems should be rather similar, I think.

I have a couple of questions pertaining to MATLAB HW 7:

1)How do you upload an image to this forum?

2)What is the significance of outputSteps in the acf file? I generated results without using this value. Is it supposed to be relate the tolerance used for the Newton-Raphson method?

1. when you post an article you have the option to upload a file. upload a png or jpg, that should to it.

2. suppose you have an time step of 1E-6. You can have something this small in dynamics when you have to advance the simulation with a very small time step due to friction, impact, etc. Then, you don't want to save information to output every 1E-6 seconds since then in order to simulate for 2 sec you would write to disk 2E6, which is super slow and wastes a lot of memory space. Moreover, your eye wouldn't see the difference if you print out results every 1E-6 or every 1E-3 seconds. The value outputSteps is supposed to indicate how many time state information is to be saved for post-processing (printing, looking at results, etc.). If outputSteps=100 and your simulation is 2 seconds long, then the state of the system will be sent out every 0.02 seconds (Tend/outputSteps).
