Nic Olsen is a Master’s student in SBEL with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics. Since joining the lab at the end of his Sophomore year of undergraduate, he has researched methods for accelerating computational granular dynamics with high-performance computing hardware. Currently, his research is contributing to the Chrono::Granular engine for simulating granular dynamics on GPUs. Nic’s research interests include multibody dynamics, high-performance computing methods, and computational fluid dynamics.
Outside of the lab, Nic enjoys spending time with his wife, Danielle and their two cats. Nic also enjoys playing piano and is a performing member of UW-Madison’s choral ensembles, Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers.
